Self-knowledge means understanding your sensations, thoughts, beliefs, values, and behaviours.
It's about knowing what makes you tick, why you get out of bed in the morning, and what you value in relationships. Examining yourself requires constant self-awareness and self-consciousness.
Self-awareness will help you make decisions that are better for you. And when this happens, you become less stressed about what people think or whether you made the right choice.
Knowing yourself lets you live the life you truly want — you know who you are, what you want, and what brings out the best in you. If you don't fully understand who you are, you will continue to make decisions against your true self.
By self-knowledge, psychologists mean understanding our feelings, motivations, thinking patterns and tendencies. These give us a stable sense of self-worth and a secure grip on our values and motivations. Without self-knowledge, we cannot have an internal measure of our own worth.
