Supervision is useful when a psychotherapist,

counsellor or psychologist feels the need to talk to

a qualified supervisor.

This might happen because:

  •    They might feel that therapy is not progressing and need help deciding how to proceed.

  •    To ensure ethical standards and a high moral code of conduct.

  •    They might need a different perspective, leading to new understandings and deeper insights.

  •    They might be facing an ethical and/or professional dilemma.

  •    It might be demanded from their psychotherapy training programme.

  •    Any other reason.

In many European countries, Supervision is compulsory for all practicing Psychotherapists  and Counsellors and  like psychotherapy, it  takes place under strict confidentiality, and it can either take the form of individual supervision or group supervision.
